Cumbria Youth Orchestra is leading a grand performance at The Sands Centre Carlisle on Monday 10th July. The concert is the culmination of two exciting collaborative projects which between them bring together over 500 young musicians as performers and composers. CYO will be joined by over 400 primary school singers, Manchester Camerata and BlueJam Youth Jazz to present One Small Bird: Ballad of the Red-Necked Phalarope - A song-cycle for 500 young musicians written by Kate Stilitz & Jilly Jarman which follows the migratory route of one of Britain’s rarest birds, the red-necked phalarope. We also have the world premiere of Tales of Cumberland - written by young composers from Trinity, Newman, Caldew, Newcastle College and Austin Friars in collaboration with Orchestras Live and Manchester Camerata, plus music by Gershwin, Schubert and Sparke. Our thanks to Arts Council England for funding this project.
