Cumbria Youth Orchestra is a group of young musicians of around grade 5-8 standard. We play a huge variety of orchestral music with a young professional conductor, Leon Reimer. Rehearsals are supported by our team of specialist professional tutors. So if you want to perform in a variety of musical settings, improve your ensemble skills and raise the level of your playing we’d love to hear from you.
A really valuable and inspiring experience for all the kids and we thoroughly enjoyed the concert … fabulous to give them the opportunity again to work with a world-class conductor.
For me CYO was a great chance to meet young people interested in music and it gave me the opportunity to not only play great music but also to learn from other really experienced and fantastic musicians
Kasia Davies, Orchestra Leader 2017/18

Cumbria Music Hub provides significant funding for the running of CYO. We ask members for nominal registration fee of £20.00 for the season.
CYO continues to grow, with our biggest orchestra yet. The 2019 Summer Concert focused on Film Music – from James Bond, Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, Out of Africa – and featured music from the latest Cumbria Calling composition project inspired by the West Coast.
This year we welcomed new conductor Leon Reimer who led the orchestra through some exciting repertoire from BBC Ten Pieces as well as music composed by young Cumbrian composers as part of Cumbria Calling II.
2016/17 saw us working towards an exciting showcase concert at The Sands, Carlisle in collaboration with Manchester Camerata, Orchestras Live, BlueJam Jazz and over 400 young singers.
